Xytel has designed and built several SDA pilot plants.

Residue deasphalting is performed by liquid-liquid extraction using a solvent such as propane, butane, pentane, or super critical CO2. Asphalt plugging is prevented by building the asphalt section in double pipe with the circulation of hot oil to heat asphalt as far as a product tank.
